Unlock and turn device on or off

Press the Side button to lock or unlock iPhone's screen.

To turn on the device, press and hold the Side button until the Apple Logo appears.

To turn the device off, press and hold the Side button until the slider appears, then slide to power off.

Return to home screen

To return to the home screen, press the Home button. 

Adjust volume or silence device

Press the Volume buttons on the left side of the device to adjust media or call volume.

Flip the Ring/Silent switch to put iPhone in ring mode or silent mode.

Note: In ring mode, iPhone plays all sounds. In silent mode, iPhone doesn’t ring or play alerts and other sound effects (but iPhone may still vibrate).

Locate cameras

The iSight camera is located on the back of the device.

The True Tone Flash is located on the back of the device.

The FaceTime camera is located on the front of the device.

Locate microphone and speaker

The receiver/microphone is located on the bottom of the device.

The speaker is located on the bottom of the device.

Locate the SIM card tray

The SIM card tray is located on the right side of the device.

Locate the Lightning connector port

Wenn euch das nächste mal jemand am Telefon sagt, „ich verstehe dich gerade total schlecht“, solltet ihr überprüfen, wie ihr das iPhone gerade in der Hand habt. Die von Apple unter der Überschrift „Wenn das Mikrofon an Ihrem iPhone, iPad oder iPod touch nicht funktioniert“ veröffentlichten Hinweise sind etwas für den Hinterkopf. Unter anderem wird hier auch erklärt, wie man die einzelnen Mikrofone testen kann.

Der Titel des Apple-Dokuments ist irreführend. Das iPhone hat nicht nur eines, sondern verfügt über (mindestens) drei Mikrofone. Zusätzlich zu dem unten neben dem Lightning-Anschluss angebrachten Hauptmikrofon sind auf der Vorder- und Rückseite des Geräts im oberen Bereich noch zwei weitere, kleinere Mikrofone platziert. Jedes dieser Mikrofone hat unterschiedliche Funktionen, daher kann es auch vorkommen, dass Audio-Probleme nur einzelne Anwendungen betreffen.

Das untere (bei neueren Geräten sind es auch zwei) Hauptmikrofon ist beim gewöhnlichen Telefonieren aktiv und wird auch von Anwendungen wie Sprachmemos genutzt. Die beiden oberen Mikrofone auf der Vorder- und Rückseite begleiten die Kameras bei Videoaufnahmen und finden dementsprechend auch bei Videotelefonaten Verwendung.

Hier kommen wir zu der eingangs erwähnten schlechten Sprachqualität. Apple macht darauf aufmerksam, dass ein Abdecken oder Blockieren des rückseitigen Mikrofons dazu führen kann, dass sich sich die Stimme für den Gesprächspartner zu leise anhört. Dies hängt mit der integrierten Geräuschunterdrückungsfunktion des iPhone zusammen.

Fehler in der Apple-Anleitung

Wenn ihr unseren Text mit dem deutschen Apple-Dokument vergleicht, werdet ihr euch womöglich an der Platzierung des Hauptmikrofons stören. Apple spricht hier nämlich von einem „Hauptmikrofon oben am iPhone“. Hier liegt allerdings ein – leider nicht unerheblicher – Übersetzungsfehler vor. Das englischsprachige Original verweist mit den Worten „the primary microphone on the bottom of your iPhone“ auf die Unterseite des Geräts.

Wenn der Ton bei Telefongesprächen, bei FaceTime-Anrufen, bei Videoaufnahmen oder in Apps undeutlich ist, erfährst du hier, wie du dieses Problem behebst.

1. Entferne alle Schutzfolien oder Hüllen von deinem iPhone.
2. Entferne jeglichen Schmutz von den Öffnungen des iPhone. 

1. Starte die App "Sprachmemos". 
2. Tippe auf die Aufnahmetaste 
   
   , sprich in den unteren Teil des iPhone, und beende dann die Aufnahme. 
3. Wenn du das Memo wiedergibst, solltest du deine Stimme klar hören.
4. Wenn du deine Stimme nicht klar hörst, kontaktiere den Apple Support.

1. Öffne die Kamera-App.
2. Nimm ein Video auf, während du in den oberen Teil des iPhone sprichst.
3. Tippe auf die Kameraauswahl-Taste 
   
   , um zur anderen Kamera zu wechseln. Nimm dann ein weiteres Video auf, während du in den oberen Teil deines iPhone sprichst.
4. Wenn du die Videos wiedergibst, solltest du deine Stimme klar hören.
5. Wenn du deine Stimme nicht klar hörst, kontaktiere den Apple Support.

1. Tippe auf "Einstellungen" > "Datenschutz" > "Mikrofon".
2. Stelle sicher, dass die App aktiviert ist.
3. Wenn die App die Erlaubnis hat, auf dein Mikrofon zuzugreifen, oder wenn sie nicht aufgeführt ist, wende dich an den App-Entwickler.

FaceTime ist nicht in allen Ländern und Regionen verfügbar.

1. Remove any screen protectors, films or cases from your iPhone.
2. Clear any debris from the openings of your iPhone. 

1. Open the Voice Memos app. 
2. Tap the Record button 
   
   , speak at the bottom of your phone, then stop the recording. 
3. When you play back the memo, you should hear your voice clearly.
4. If you don't hear your voice clearly, contact Apple Support.

1. Open the Camera app.
2. Record a video while speaking at the top of your iPhone.
3. Tap the camera chooser 
   
    to switch to the other camera. Then record another video while speaking at the top of your iPhone.
4. When you play back the videos, you should hear your voice clearly.
5. If you don't hear your voice clearly, contact Apple Support.

1. Go to Settings > Privacy > Microphone.
2. Make sure that the app is enabled.
3. If the app has permission to access your microphone, or if it isn't listed, contact the app developer.
