I had an important item arranged for delivery today and I have stayed home specially for it, sitting by my front facing bedroom window which is above the front entrance, quietly doing some coursework with no sound so as to listen out for the door. My housemate has been downstairs in the living room also positioned at the front of the house quietly chilling, also listening out for the door. About an hour ago I heard a car/van parking up out on the street but didn't think much of it as obviously numerous cars come and go throughout the day. A moment later I heard it leaving again and decided to peek out my window to see a DPD turning the corner and out of the street. I found it odd but assumed it was for another house as there was no knock and the doorbell didn't ring, so I got back to what I was doing. about 10 minutes later my housemate came up and showed me a blank 'sorry we missed you' note, and he was confused as he had also heard no knock or doorbell even though he is within close proximity to the front entrance. My assumption is that said delivery driver was behind schedule and in a rush, decided to leave a note instead of knocking, waiting and then processing the delivery. I'm really P***ed off as I was really excited for this item and now I have to stay home and wait all day again tomorrow. I know it sounds like we may have simply not heard the door, but I can assure you, the sound of the door knocking is definitely loud enough from mt bedroom and more so from the living room, and about 20 minutes ago the postman delivered a letter and I easily heard the letterbox even with a video playing...the driver simply didn't bother to knock. Is this a common thing with deliveries or is it a rarity? I feel like complaining but I know it won't get anywhere. Anybody else had issues like this?
Very common although DPD are normally better then the usual suspects Hermes and Yodel. I had some serious issues with DPD a few years ago who failed to deliver to an office block so many times that I changed the building's 30m long, 5m tall light up sign to their company colours just to give them the hint.
Happens all the time, I understand drivers have to meet a certain quota but not even knocking or ringing the doorbell is just sheer laziness. I once had Hermes send me an email to say they'd delivered my parcel, only to look in the porch and find it wasn't there. Looked on the photo they uploaded online as proof and there was my parcel sitting outside someone else's front door. It's even worse having to complain to them as you can't phone, you have to do it all online which takes ages, they ended up just fobbing me off with excuses like "we've disciplined the driver responsible, we're looking into it, we're liasing with the team" etc etc and then eventually stopped updating me altogether. It's a good job the guy a few streets away who'd they'd actually delivered it to was kind enough to bring it round.
