Oscar Isaac is an actor who has played many roles, and these days Marvel fans know him best as Moon Knight. However, the franchise that really helped him rise to fame was Star Wars. Isaac played Poe Dameron in the sequel trilogy and his last appearance was in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker back in 2019. While fans of the actor are eager to see if he'll be returning to Marvel, there's always a chance his days in the galaxy far, far away aren't quite over either. Isaac recently had a chat with Jess Cagle on SiriusXM and revealed he'd be open to playing Poe again.

"So I'm up in here in this like little, you know, this little village [in Denmark] up here and they had this very small music festival down here and it was shockingly, very young kids that were there ... a couple times people would just be like 'Star Wars, Star Wars.' They would just yell Star Wars at me," Isaac revealed when asked what people approach him about the most. "It felt great. It felt really great ... I think Star Wars generally, Moon Knight a bit more, you know, those are like the big ones. Those are the bigger tent projects. So, those are the ones."

"Hmm. I don't know. No, I don't know," Isaac added when asked if he'd play Poe again. "I mean I'm open ... to anything you never know ... I have no real feeling one way or the other, you know, I'm open to any kind of good story, any good thing to do and time's the one thing that could become much more challenging as you get older and with kids and all that. It's like, 'Where do these things fit in?' Start realizing that there's not time for all of it, but if there was a great story and a great director, and Kathy [Kennedy] came to me and was like, 'Hey, we've got this idea,' you know, I'm so, so open to it."

As for Moon Knight, fans are hoping there will soon be a Season 2 announcement. ComicBook.com spoke with director Mohamed Diab earlier this year, and the filmmaker told us he wasn't sure if the show would get a second season.

"First of all, I want to tell you that I'm kept in the dark as you. I know nothing about what's going to happen. And I'm not just saying that I'm not pulling a Toby McGuire on you," the filmmaker told us at the time. "If it was for me, I would start with Jake Lockley. I want to see his world. Everyone is so intrigued about him and [I want to] see what happens in between those blinks and who he is and what does he love and who does he love. It's very interesting for me," Diab added. "But I love that the small things that we put all through the episode made people, every episode, waiting for Jake, waiting for Jake, waiting for Jake. But I think it, he was introduced in the right time at the very end, knowing that con should still have a hold on them."

Oscar Isaac seems to be more interested in returning to his role as Poe Dameron in the Star Wars franchise.

The actor made his Star Wars debut in The Force Awakens as Poe Dameron, a rebel pilot. He starred alongside Daisy Ridley as Rey and John Boyega as Finn in the latest Star Wars trilogy.

However, after the end of the trilogy it seems like he didn’t really want to continue working on Star Wars. He talked about his doubts about returning, mentioning how he felt burned out. But now it seems he’s changed his mind, as he revealed in a recent interview with SiriusXM.

When asked about returning to Star Wars as Dameron, Isaac said “I don’t know. I’m open to anything. You never know. I have no real feeling one way or another. I’m open to any good story.“

He continued, saying “If there was a great story and a great director and Kathy (Kathleen Kennedy) came to me and was like, ‘I have this great idea,’ then I’m so open to it.”

A change of heart?

The actor previously joked about only returning to Star Wars for the money. But while that may be a joke, it’s clear he didn’t have much enthusiasm initially after the trilogy ended.

He mentioned being in “green screen space land” for too long and that he was desperate to move onto different things. He starred in another Disney series, Moon Knight, which premiered on Disney+. He also starred in Dune as Leto.

Now, he seems more enthusiastic about reprising his role as Poe Dameron, but whether that’ll actually happen remains to be seen. There are a lot of Star Wars projects in the works right now, but none of them have much to do with the trilogy he was a part of. This could be due to the poor reception the trilogy ultimately received from fans when it concluded.

Oscar Isaac appears to have changed his course when it comes to a possible return to “Star Wars.” The actor played fan-favorite Poe Dameron in the most recent “Star Wars” trilogy with Daisy Ridley’s Rey and John Boyega’s Finn, but he ended his run burnt out and doubtful that he’d ever return for more. However, Isaac recently said during a SiriusXM interview that he’s “so open” to more “Star Wars” as long as “there was a great story and a great director.”

“I don’t know. I’m open to anything. You never know,” Isaac said when asked about returning to the “Star Wars” franchise. “I have no real feeling one way or another. I’m open to any good story. Time is the one thing that becomes challenging…as you get older and kids and all that. Where do [movies] fit in? If there was a great story and a great director and [Lucasfilm president] Kathy [Kennedy] came to me and was like, ‘I have this great idea,’ then I’m so open to it.”

Isaac’s more gung-ho attitude in regards to more “Star Wars” is miles away from the burnout he expressed following the release of “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.” The actor said in several interviews that post-“Star  Wars” he was desperate to return to more character-driven work like Paul Schrader’s “The Card Counter.”

Isaac couldn’t have been more blunt at the 2021 Venice Film Festival when he said, “I’ve been in green-screen space land for quite a few years and I was desperate to do a character study.”

“It’s not really what I set out to do,” Isaac said in one interview about making “Star Wars”-sized movies. “What I set out to do was to make handmade movies, and to work with people that inspire me… It feels like for me a personal turning point and that, as far as I’m concerned, it has nothing to do with the finished product. It’s the process of doing this.”

Isaac famously joked in 2020 that he would only return to “Star Wars” for money and if “I need another house or something.”

The actor would end up returning to the franchise system with his role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe series “Moon Knight,” but he often stressed on the press tour that he agreed to the show because it was more about character and less about spectacle.

“Often on these big movies it can feel like you’re building the plane on the runway,” Isaac told Empire magazine. “The idea of getting back to ‘handmade’ films, character studies…I was desperate for that feeling. [‘Moon Knight’] felt handmade. And it’s the first legitimate Marvel character-study since ‘Iron Man.’ I thought, ‘Maybe I can hijack this thing. Maybe this is the chance to do something really fucking nutty on a major stage.’”

“Moon Knight” is now streaming on Disney+. Disney has not announced any plans for Poe Dameron to return to the “Star Wars” universe, but anything’s possible.

Poe Dameron actor Oscar Isaac revealed what it would take for him to return to the Star Wars franchise.

Oscar Isaac last played Poe Dameron in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, and the actor seemed pretty hesitant about playing the character in the future, joking that they couldn’t “Disney Plus” him. Since departing the Star Wars franchise, Isaac has appeared in Dune, entered the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Moon Knight, and voiced Spider-Man 2099 for the upcoming Spider-Verse sequel.

Will Poe Return?

Despite appearing reluctant to return as Poe Dameron in Star Wars, Oscar Isaac might be coming around to the idea now that a few years have passed. There’s a chance Poe could also show up in Patty Jenkins’ Rogue Squadron or a new Disney Plus project. Here’s was Isaac told Jess Cagle on SiriusXM when asked about a potential Star Wars return:

“Hmm. I don’t know. No, I don’t know. I mean I’m open … to anything you never know … I have no real feeling one way or the other, you know, I’m open to any kind of good story, any good thing to do and time’s the one thing that could become much more challenging as you get older and with kids and all that. It’s like, ‘Where do these things fit in?’ Start realizing that there’s not time for all of it, but if there was a great story and a great director, and Kathy [Kennedy] came to me and was like, ‘Hey, we’ve got this idea,’ you know, I’m so, so open to it.”
