After a thrilling Game 3 between the Bucks and Celtics, we're destined for more of the same in Game 4. Show
Playoff series can completely swing on the basis of one or two plays and that's exactly what we saw in Game 3 when Al Horford's game-tying tip-in left his hands just after the buzzer as the Bucks took a 2-1 lead. Milwaukee nearly let its first home game slip away, but behind a dominating performance from Giannis Antetokounmpo, it was able to prevail to capture a massive victory. Antetokounmpo once again proved that he is the best player in the world, erupting for 42 points, 12 rebounds and eight assists to carry the Bucks to victory. Milwaukee also did a great job of containing Celtics superstar Jayson Tatum, who had his worst game of the postseason in the loss. Tatum finished with just 10 points and three assists on 4-for-19 shooting from the field, leaving Boston needing much more from its All-Star forward. If the Celtics are going to even the series heading back to Boston for Game 5, they will need Tatum to look more like the player who outplayed Kevin Durant in the first round of the playoffs. *if necessary The Boston Celtics put themselves in the driver's seat at home in Game 5, leading the Milwaukee Bucks by six points with just over two minutes to play in the game. From there, the Bucks dug in deep to pull off a miraculous comeback, stunning a rocking TD Garden crowd to steal Game 5 on the road and take a 3-2 series lead. Jrue Holiday was the hero of the game, coming up with two massive stops down the stretch, along with a clutch 3-pointer to tie the game with under a minute left. The Bucks share the arena with the Marquette Golden Eagles men's basketball team. The arena broke ground in June of 2016 and opened in August of 2018. The construction cost of the project is estimated at $524 million. The arena can hold a maximum capacity of 17,341. The naming rights of the arena belong to Fiserv, which is a financial services tech company based in Milwaukee. With Turkey's loss, there are no more Sixers playing in the tournament. 0 Andre Iguodala says he will announce his return-or-retire decision on his podcast at some point. But no decision yet. Warriors open training camp two weeks from tomorrow. Steve Kerr and the team's veteran players want Iguodala to return. 0 The reports on Seranthony Domínguez were good; Rob Thomson said his fastball was 98-100 mph during his inning at Triple A. Domínguez could be activated Saturday. Meanwhile, Zach Eflin threw 27 pitches in two innings Friday at Triple A. He struck out three and allowed a homer. He could be activated soon. It would not be surprising to see him start Sept. 16 in Atlanta as an opener for Ranger Suárez. 1 Seranthony Domínguez will pitch Thursday for Triple-A Lehigh Valley. It's possible he could be activated after just one outing there, but the Phillies will see how it goes. And Zach Eflin will start Friday for Lehigh Valley, but treat it like a bullpen game. He'll warm up and enter the game from the bullpen. His rehab stint might be just one outing. 4 Harrell's signing also likely does not bode well for Paul Reed and/or Charles Bassey. The Sixers are up to 17 players with guaranteed or partially-guaranteed NBA contracts and will have to move some of them to both get to the 15-man regular season roster limit and continue to stay under the hard cap. Bassey and Reed have partially and non-guaranteed contracts, and another center on the team now. 5 The first thought is that Harrell has an excellent chance to play a role in Philadelphia. He has a history with Doc Rivers, Daryl Morey and James Harden. Rivers, who tends to favor experience, famously continued to play Harrell despite the player's ineffective performance in the Orlando bubble for the Clippers. That was the same year Harrell won the NBA's Sixth Man of the Year under Rivers. 1 A source confirmed that the Sixers have signed free-agent center Montrezl Harrell to a two-year contract at the veteran minimum. ESPN had the initial report. I will have some more detailed thoughts for tomorrow morning, but some initial reaction to come in the following briefs... 1 Both Seranthony Domínguez and Zach Eflin threw to hitters on the field at Citizens Bank Park. There was some rust for both, but Eflin was up to 93-94 mph. If they feel good Wednesday, the next step could be minor-league games. Rob Thomson said it could be only one or two games in the minors until they return. 4 Furkan Korkmaz scored 16 points (6-12 FG) for Turkey in their EuroBasket win over Belgium on Tuesday. It's notable that Korkmaz was able to play a few days after allegedly getting into a locker room fight with Georgian players after being ejected from a game between the two countries. Per EuroHoops, Korkmaz said, "Basically, it was a street fight. Five people attacked us, we defended ourselves." 2 Dalton Guthrie had done enough, Rob Thomson said, to merit protection on the 40-man roster to prevent him from becoming a minor-league free agent. So, to clear space for him, the Phillies designated Luis Garcia for assignment. Garcia was once a regarded prospect; he signed for $2.5 million. Phillies pushed him in 2019 to Low A and it's hard not to think his struggles there had lasting effects. 4 |
