What is a shot book

This is the front of the awesome shot book my best friends organized for me for my 21st birthday last year!

I like it because it’s simple, and it’s my favorite color, Tiffany blue! But some of my friends have books with pictures all over the front which is cute too!

For my shot book my friends told everyone to do the “STFX” thing; S = name of the shot (you can put the name of a shot you want them to take or wait until they go out to let them choose a shot!) T= time of the shot F = from, aka your name!

X = their signature after they take the shot so that they can see it get worse as they get drunker as the night goes on!

One of the major parts of a girl turning 21 here at KU is making a Shot Book, consisting of different scrapbook pages filled to the brim with fun pictures and love, and of course, 21 shots. Today, I’m going to teach you guys a few of the basics on how to make these babies for some of your friends.

What You’ll Need:

Scrapbook Paper: Michael’s has the best selection in Lawrence by far! Choose different types, colors and patterns. The more creative, the better!

Stickers: these can be all different types of stickers. I always get letters, because I can’t write well and I also get a few different things to go with the theme of the page!

Scissors

Glue

Pictures: one of my favorite parts of these pages is including pictures. Of course, if you don’t have any photos with the birthday girl, you can put in drink recipes or even leave a spot for a picture later!

LET’S DIY!

Step 1: so you are going to want to collect all your materials. I usually keep everything together when I’m not using it. But, you can spread everything out on the table very easily.

Step 2: Usually when I make pages, I usually try to make them unique so the birthday girl will remember it. For this page that you can see below, I’m make a Frozen themed page. But, you can do what ever you want with them!

Step 3: After you have all of your paper cut and glued, you can start putting your pictures and stickers on. The cool thing about these pages is that you can make them however you want! I didn’t have a photo with the special girl, so I just put a space for one later!

Step 4: For the last step, this is the most important so that they can create memories. STWX (shot, time, where and the signature of who bought it) are the most important part of your page. Make sure to get creative with this!

I hope you guys enjoyed this short little tutorial, and make sure to show us your creations at Her Campus KU on Twitter and Facebook; we would love to see them!

These pages include who (meaning who bought it), where (the location the shot was taken, when (the time the shot was taken, what (what kind of shot), and signature (where the birthday girl signs, or trys to at least sign here name.) These pages are made by her girlfriends/sorority sisters and consist of pictures, quotes, and stickers on cute crafty paper.

See binge drinking, 21st birthday

For many young people, their 21st birthday represents the entrance into true adulthood and the gateway to legal drinking. To celebrate this milestone, a party is sometimes accompanied by a traditional challenge to consume as many shots of alcohol as years lived -- 21. This quest can be documented by a special scrapbook that chronicles the reveler's voyage toward consuming their age in ounces of alcohol, which can sometimes last the entire day.

First, you'll need a blank scrapbook or photo book with at least 21 pages. Shot books are traditionally decorated beforehand according to the style and personality of the birthday girl or boy and participating friends. It is, however, important to leave some blank space to accumulate souvenirs, keepsakes, autographs, witness statements and most importantly, pictures that will be taken throughout the night documenting the circumstances surrounding each individual shot.

The purpose of a shot book is to chronicle the events of the party with the shots as contextual focal points. Although every shot book should be unique, there are some universal elements that every shot book should contain. These include the time and place that the shot was taken, the ingredients and the name of the person who purchased the shot. Finally, a picture should document the honoree drinking the shot, which will be placed in the book later with the corresponding information.

To personalize the shot book even further, elements from the honoree's past can be added as a timeline for context. Some books include a photo from each year of the guest of honor's life. For example, an infant picture corresponds with short No. 1 and a 7th-grade picture with shot No.12. In other cases, shot books have featured pictures of past boyfriends or girlfriends, life phases and changes in style or taste. Again, it is important not to clutter the book so much that there isn't sufficient room to improvise throughout the night.

Someone who drinks 21 shots can't be expected to retain control over the duties of maintaining the shot book throughout the night. Dedicate a responsible friend or group of friends -- perhaps the designated driver-- who will be able to keep the shot book safe and accurately updated throughout. Also, devise a plan in advance about what to do with the unfinished pages in the likelihood that the challenge isn't fully met.

According to the Mayo Clinic, the average human body can process one shot of 80 proof -- 40 percent alcohol -- liquor in one hour. Alcohol poisoning can affect breathing, heart rate and body temperature, potentially leading to serious illness or even death. For the overwhelming majority of people, it would only be feasible to consume 21 shots if they were spaced out over a long period of time, consisted of liquor weakened with mixers or both.

God knows you’re not planning on remembering your 21st birthday party the next morning, so one of the funniest traditions is to make a 21st birthday shot book.

You can chronicle every shot, every stranger and every slip-up. Because even though you’ll regret the play-by-play the morning after, once you’ve recovered from the hangover, you’ll be reminiscing over this for years to come. Especially when the other parts of being 21 start settling in – like bills and stock investments and what to name your third cat.

Your 21st birthday shot book will be like a scrapbook with 21 pages, one for each shot. As the pages get filled up, you may not even be able to keep a hold of it, let alone write in it. So the first step to making a shot book is to announce the plan to your friends because they will most likely be the ones finishing it.

Each 21st birthday shot book page includes…

What is a shot book

1. The name of the shot

2. Who bought the shot for you

3. Where the shot was taken

4. When the shot was taken

5. A picture of the shot being taken

But before all this happens, you might want to take a couple of preparation steps! Add decorations to the scrapbook that reflect your personality and print out some sober photos of yourself to put in it.

It’s important to remember that according to Clayton Neighbors, a University of Houston psychology professor, fewer than 10 percent of people who attempt to take 21 shots actually do. Don’t feel pressure from the blank pages, because this drinking game is more about participation.

Once you’re ready to make memories that you’ll forget somewhere around shot #8, you can start collecting more for the scrapbook. We have tons of suggestions on what to do. You can ask the bartender for a recipe of the shot and score it from 1-10 with a picture of your bottoms up reaction. You can write down the funny conversations. You can take pictures with strangers and have them sign as witnesses to your shot.

You can save souvenirs from the places you barhop around, like bar napkins or drink straws or business cards. You can have your friends write you messages like it’s a high school yearbook but without the “HAGS.” And you can include quotes about turning 21, like our ten favorite birthday ideas below:

  • It’s only good if you don’t remember it. One tequila, two tequila, three tequila, floor.
  • You are only young once, but you can be immature for a lifetime.
  • Finally 21, and legally able to do everything I’ve been doing since 15.
  • 21 and hot, buy me a shot!
  • First you take a drink, then the drink takes a drink, then the drink takes you.
  • I don’t have a drinking problem ‘Cept when I can’t get a drink.
  • Tonight, all the focus will be on you—it’s just as well because you won’t be able to focus on anything.
  • Now you are 21 you can do things that you couldn’t have done before…or should I say, shouldn’t have done before.
  • I like to have a martini, two at the very most. After three I’m under the table, after four I’m under my host.
  • 21 and legal. Proceed with caution.

By the end of the night, you’ll have a (hopefully) beautiful keepsake made by all your best friends to post all over social media.
