The elephant was cute the story was not as interesting as I hoped by the title. I would enjoy reading more by the author to see the growth. The young one here was not willing to read along with me. She was the deciding factor in the rating.

My six-year-old really liked this book, and when I asked him why he liked it, he said that it showed that if you keep trying to do something hard [instead of giving up], you will be able to do it! I like that he has this book to read because he definitely struggles with getting frustrated easily with things that are difficult for him initially, whether it be a new academic skill or a new trick he's trying like cartwheels or swimming! I anticipate going back to this book during these frustrating moments, or just reminding him of the message by saying "Remember those elephants! Try again!"I'm not a huge fan of the illustrations; they are a bit simple, and at one point, there are five pages in a row that are very similar. There is another page where the boy is imagining himself attempting his homework with a picture of a baby elephant alongside him, and it is a bit confusing.

There are some glaring grammar mistakes, which make a few sentences toward the end a bit awkward to read, but overall, I really like the lessons that this author is teaching through his creative stories. They really stick with kids, and this book will not disappoint.

Cheers to another great story by A.M. Marcus! The Elephant and the Rope tells a story about a boy who is having a hard time finding the right answers to his homework. After a few tries, he gives up, and goes to his grandfather, sulking and complaining about his predicament. Grandfather soon tells him a story about his youth when he was still working in a circus.He tells him that the elephants that he fed were tied to a rope eventhough those big animals could easily get away, but chose to stay. There he learned something about the way elephants preferred to give up instead of trying again.

This story isn't only for kids but is also applicable to grown ups who easily get discouraged when the going gets tough. A perfect story to reminds us that if there's a will, there's a way. We only need to continue striving and trying until we get the intended results. That we must overcome the challenges in order to achieve our goals. That we shouldn't be like the elephants who didn't settle for more. Kudos to A.M Marcus for not only writing a beautiful tale but for also uplifting us and opening our eyes to a more positive attitude!

I liked the message of this story. It is engaging to think about the trick played on the elephants and how we trick ourselves into giving up (or never even beginning!). The illustrations are great and it reads well in a Kindle format. The only problem I have with this story is the child is struggling with his homework and Grandpa tells him a story but offers no actual help. I'd have liked to see Grandpa tell the story and then assist the boy with his work, rather then sending him back to his roo I liked the message of this story. A.M. Marcus has written an engaging, sweet story that anyone who has ever struggled with a task can relate to. With so many assessments, and so many high skills being taught in school, this book brings the power of clear, positive thinking to today's elementary school students.The main character is struggling with homework, and asks his grandpa for advice. The grandfather begins a seemingly unrelated story about working at a circus when he was younger. He had been amazed that the large, strong elephants were held in place during their bath by a thin rope around an ankle. Upon asking the keeper, he is told that the elephants learned they could not break the rope when they were babies, and do not even try to break free as adults because of that. The main character understands that if he does not keep trying to reason out his assignment, he is being like the big, strong elephants who let past failures hold them back. And when he succeeds, he feels like a "big, strong elephant, breaking the rope that had held him back." What a powerful image for a child!

Will's grandad relates his experience about when he worked for the circus and how what he learned could help Will in his situation. The concept of failure is explained clearly with the elephant illustration, and I’m glad the author makes readers understand failure is a normal part of life, but not something that has to control your entire life. We used the free color pages a bit differently than normal. I purchased this book to read to my elephant obsessed little one. I am familiar with Assaf Marcus’s books and have always been pleased by the morals tied in to each adventure, so I did not hesitate to purchase this one. The whole idea of this particular story is that you should not give up just because you have been unable to do something in the past. In short, hard work pays off. My little one has mentioned (since we have read this) that she is going to be like the elephants that break free. I I purchased this book to read to my elephant obsessed little one. The Elephant and the Rope is our favorite book by A.M. Marcus so far! The story about the grandfather's jobs at the circus was very entertaining for my six-year-old daughter. She was so tickled by the idea of bathing an elephant. I especially like the questions at the end of the book. When I asked my daughter the questions after we finished reading, she told me that she feels the way Will felt when she learns a new letter to write in cursive (right now she's learning "a"). I asked her what she should do, and she said, "Keep trying!" It's a wonderful lesson for any kid to learn.

Well written, yet simple book that portrays the message perfectly to children.

My nephew absolutely loved this book. Aside from understanding the message perfectly he also loved the images and had a real thing for the elephants in the story. It's a really good message to send children from a young age and A.M.Marcus does it absolutely perfectly. Probably one of my favourite of his books so far. Thank you!

The Elephant and the Rope was an adorable story about Will, a kid who is struggling with his homework and asks his Grandpa for advice because he wants to quit. His Grandpa tells him a story about when he was working in a circus and about how the elephant trainers kept their elephants from going away. It was cute, but when I read it to my 6 year old son he had a difficult time understanding a few. I would still recommend it though, it has a great concept!

This book is fantastic.Its about a boy who give up easily on homework he is trying to to. Step in clever Grandpa who tells him a story about an some elephants in a circus who didn't try hard enough and gave up too easily. Grandpa was trying to tell the boy to keep on trying and never give up.

The story of the circus made this book fun and the cartoons were brilliant. A great story for any parent/teacher to read to children.
