Maybe for Windows 98, But XP, Vista and Windows 7, Operating system has a default driver.

Fairly sure you don't really need a driver for a dvd drive, atleast for any modern OS its all predone.

Check your device manager for any exclamation points, also check if the dvd drive is hooked up properly.

Hey, I am buying a HDD for an upcoming computer build. I want a SATA III HDD, but the only SATA III one is OEM/bare. However, my motherboard includes SATA cables and the power cables are part of the PSU. Should I buy the drive? Will i be missing anything I need when buying the OEM drive? Thanks!

I always buy OEM drives, you won't be missing anything that you need. Although understand that there is no performance advantage for SATA III over SATA II for HDDs as they do not come close to saturating the SATA II port.

The bare drive is just that. you will receive a card board box with the hdd in an anti-static bag. No manual and no cable. If you already have a sata cable then you have everything you need. There is really no reason to buy a retail drive unless you like having a shiny box and having a cable packaged with it.

No cables , no software = oem

I have an OCZ Agility 3 60GB ssd and a ep45-ud3l GIGABYTE motherboard (only has sata2). This isn't my main computer so i don't really care about the raw read and write speeds but I want it to start up fast. My question is that I'm getting about 50second start up time with this ssd isn't that very slow for an ssd? On my newer rig with my Samsung 128GB ssd and sata3 I start up in about 20seconds. Is a lower end ssd and sata2 really more then doubling my start up times? Edit I will put in some benchmarks if that helps anyone.

No, you probably either have additional motherboard controllers or too many services slowing the startup. Check your bios and turn off any unused controllers (like the JMicron), and check to see how many non-essential services are on automatic startup that can be set to manual or delayed startup.

what's the time difference after POST for each machine?

My machine used to be 30 seconds from button press to desktop, but then I needed to enable more controllers on the mobo. it's still like 10-15 seconds from post to desktop, but POST takes a good 20-30 seconds now easily.

I am thinking of getting an external HDD for storage as my laptop cannot store all the games I have. I am going to use the drive not as a backup per se but rather as a regular drive (but I will only connect it to the computer when I am going to be playing the game on it). I found 2 drives that are of affordable price on Amazon: Toshiba 1 TB USB 3.0 Canvio ($105) Seagate Expansion 2 TB ($128) Which one is more reliable (last longer) and appropriate for the type of use I intend for it? Should I skip this endeavor and buy an internal HDD then get an enclosure for it instead?

(PS: I do have a docking station but it is currently occupied with another such HDD and that HDD is always on as all the files on there are constantly read and written to; so if I am going to get another internal HDD I will need an enclosure.)

You won't get anything other then people guessing at which of those is more reliable. That is a bit of a strange setup in trying to run games directly from an external hard drive. I suppose that will work, but the usb connection is much slower then having a drive connected internally, and things may take a really long time to load. If you laptop has usb 3 support I would probably go for a usb 3 drive based on the way you want to use it.

Did you consider getting a larger internal drive for you machine? That would be a good deal more work, but seems like a cleaner way to do this.

Hmm... Well, my machine is a laptop, so placing the HDD internally isn't really an easy option. Had it been a PC, I would have considered it. What about e-sata? I think my laptop has an e-sata port... would that be faster?

0

e-sata likely would be be faster, but I was more meaning it's an odd setup running games directly from an external drive. I didn't mean adding another drive internally, I meant removing the one you are currently using and replacing it with a larger drive. Running things off the external drive will probably be fine, I just haven't seen others using that setup in general.

Indeed. I am also starting to wonder how good these externals (the ones that come as external drives from the manufacturer) are in terms of reliability.

My hard disk constantly indicates that is showing some failure, what could be the reason given that it has 76 bad sectors?

Samsung DVD writer SH 222 driver download

It's starting to fail,be sure to backup important data!

Samsung DVD writer SH 222 driver download

sell it on ebay/amazon to some unsuspecting fools! tell them it's "new" and buy a can of air and de dust it thoroughly and put it in the original package, sell it at normal price - 10-20% or something, maybe even post some fake SMART data screenshots and then you can buy a new one with the money you got from selling it! *** yeah!

Samsung DVD writer SH 222 driver download

It depends on the size of the drive, but once it runs out of spare sectors you'll start getting data loss. As others stated, start backing up now and replace the drive.

deleted partition by accident. i try to re-install windows xp when a message
pops up saying no hard disk drive detected is this normal or is the mother board gone. will it fix the problem if i purchase master restore disk

If the disk controller is set to AHCI in the bios, you'll need to either switch it to IDE/legacy or be sure to install the sata drivers during the F6 (3rd party drivers) portion of the XP install.
