Banana Smoothie- Go BANANAS

Over the past few years, we have started to create more complex smoothies on FFF! Our classic green smoothie recipe has spinach, avocado, cauliflower, bananas, and dates. It’s just delish. Today, we are taking a break from fancy smoothies and keeping it simple with a banana smoothie!

This banana smoothie tastes like what you would expect, BANANAS. You just can’t quite beat real banana flavor. (no thank you to that fake banana flavor).

There is something wonderful about the creaminess of a frozen bananas. We use them quite often as a smoothie base.

The key to a perfect nanner smoothie is the frozen bananas. Forget the ice and slice up a bundle of bananas, freeze them, and use those frozen bananas as the base for your smoothie.

Is a banana smoothie good for you?

What smoothie you prepare for yourself depends completely on what your body needs! This smoothie is a great healthy breakfast or snack throughout the week. Bananas are packed with potassium, magnesium, and vitamin C.

This smoothie also has extra fiber and protein from the flax and greek yogurt. If your doctor recommends a low sugar diet for you, keep in mind that bananas have a lot of natural sugar and adjust your meal prep for the week accordingly.

How long can you keep a banana smoothie in the fridge?

We recommend eating this smoothie immediately after preparing. If you are prepping this banana smoothie and storing it in the refrigerator, we recommend storing this smoothie in the refrigerator for no longer than two days.

Do you put ice in smoothies?

We don’t usually recommend using ice in smoothies because it tends to water down the flavor of the smoothie. We recommend using frozen fruit over ice. However, if you are using fresh fruit, feel free to add in a handful of ice to chill the smoothie.

What can replace a banana in a smoothie?

Well, in this smoothie we recommend bananas. However, feel free to use a cup of your favorite fruit if you are out of bananas.

How to Make a Banana Smoothie

This smoothie is as easy as 1-2-3. Feel free to add any extra flare or ingredients if you’d like.

We kept it nice and simple. If you feel like you want to add a serving of vegetables, try frozen cauliflower! If you would like a bit more texture try adding a couple of tablespoons of oatmeal. The options are endless.

Measure out all of the ingredients for this banana smoothie before throwing all of the ingredients into the blender.

  1. Bananas- using a ripe banana is important is this recipe. Unripe bananas don’t have a ton of banana flavor.
  2. Greek Yogurt– we like to use plain Greek yogurt but you can go right ahead and use vanilla yogurt in your smoothie. It would be delicious and add a bit of sweetness.
  3. Almond Milk– we love the flavor of almond milk but you can use any milk you’d like. Some other dairy-free options are coconut milk, soy milk, or oat meal.
  4. Flax Meal– we wanted to add extra fiber to this smoothie so flax meal it is.
  5. Vanilla Extract– vanilla extract adds a bit of sweetness and flavor to this smoothie.

If you are hoping to use up some fruit or veggies in the fridge or just want to add different ingredients to this smoothie, go for it. Below are some great add-ins for a banana smoothie.

  • honey or maple syrup– if you like your smoothies a bit sweeter, try adding a few teaspoons of honey.
  • ground cinnamon – a sprinkle of ground cinnamon would warm this smoothie up!
  • kale- a little green is always a good idea in a smoothie. We love our kale smoothie!
  • protein powder– if you are drinking this smoothie after a workout go ahead and add 1/4 cup of vanilla or chocolate protein powder to your smoothie.
  • chia seeds- sub the flax meal for some chia seeds.
  • mango- we love pairing banana with mango. And? frozen mango is so easy to find!
