Die populären Samsunghandys Galaxy A3 (Tagespreis) und Galaxy A5 (Tagespreis) des Modelljahres 2017 verfügen zur Erweiterung des internen Speichers über einen Steckplatz für microSD Speicherkarten. Der Steckplatz befindet sich an der Oberseite der Smartphones und kann mit dem SIM Werkzeug (oder einer aufgebogenen Büroklammer) geöffnet werden:

Heraus kommt der Kartenträger, in den nun die Karte eingelegt werden kann, die Kontakte zeigen dabei nach unten. Ein naheliegender Nutznießer der Speichererweiterung ist die Kamera: Besonders Videos verbrauchen reichlich Speicher, der dann für Apps und anderes fehlt. Beide Modelle zeichnen FullHD mit 1920 x 1080 Pixel Auflösung auf; als Faustregel rechnet man 200MB pro Minute Film.

Im Normalfall bietet die bordeigene Kameraapp nach Einlegen der Karte selbsttätig an, alle künftigen Fotos und Videos auf die SD Karte zu speichern:

Manuell geht das aber auch; dazu stellt man in der App in Einstellungen (Zahnradmenü) den Speicherort auf die microSD Karte. Andere Kameraapps haben im Regelfall ebenfalls eine eigene Einstellung für den Speicherort:

microSD Speicherkarte für Galaxy A3 / A5

Als sinnvolle Mindestkapazität für eine Speichererweiterung würden wir heute 64 Gigabyte wählen; bei der Auswahl der Karte ist zu berücksichtigen, daß sowohl A3 als auch A5 Speicherkarten bis maximal 256GB Kapazität aufnehmen können.

Für die Aufzeichnung von FullHD Video wird eine Karte der Geschwindigkeitsklasse 10 benötigt. Derartige Karten sind gut für eine garantierte Schreibgeschwindigkeit von 10 Megabyte pro Sekunde. Das wird auf den Karten durch den Buchstaben „C“ mit einer eingeschriebenen „10“ angezeigt (also Class 10). Manche Karten können außerdem die Bezeichnung „V10“ tragen.

Wer ohnehin vorhat, in absehbarer Zeit auf ein Handy umzusteigen, das 4K Video fähig ist, nimmt sinnvollerweise gleich eine entsprechend schnellere Karte. Das gilt auch, wenn nebenher die Karte in einer 4K-fähigen Action Cam oder Drohne verwendet werden soll.

Karten wie die Klasse 10 Karte oben sind für 4K Video zu langsam; hier wird eine UHS (Ultra High Speed) Karte der Kategorie „U3“ (SanDisk: „V30“) benötigt mit einer garantierten Schreibgeschwindigkeit von 30 Megabytes pro Sekunde. Der Aufpreis gegenüber der Klasse 10 Karte oben liegt bei etwa 10-12 Euro.

Hier noch der Hinweis, daß sich die oben genannten Karten mit einem SD Card Adapter (normalerweise im Lieferumfang) auch in gewöhnlichen Digitalkameras verwenden lassen. Die Betrachtungen zur erforderlichen Geschwindigkeit für FullHD bzw. 4K Video gelten hier genauso.
