By way of comparison, the cities of Amsterdam or Marseille are smaller than it. With just over 9 million passengers, it is not one of the busiest airports in the world. Why such a large surface area then? The airport’s website only states 36.75 km2, the rest of the surface area does not really fit into the delimitation. There is a 6-storey terminal building and a huge mosque. Inaugurated at the end of the 1990s, the airport has three terminals, one of which, the Royal Terminal, is reserved for the Saudi royal family.
