What time is the Detroit Pistons Summer League game on?

The Detroit Pistons announced their Summer League roster on Thursday, with Jaden Ivey being joined on the squad by the members of Detroit’s young core — Cade Cunningham, Saddiq Bey, Isaiah Stewart, Killian Hayes, Isaiah Livers and Saben Lee.

While much of Detroit’s core will be on the squad, I wouldn’t expect those third-year players to play much if at all. But it is a way for the Pistons to send a message that this is still all about building around youth and creating chemistry and cohesion among the players.

Jalen Duren cannot be part of the Summer League roster until the multi-team trade with the Charlotte Hornets and the New York Knicks officially goes through. Second-round pick Gabriele Procida also cannot officially join the roster until the Jerami Grant trade with the Portland Trail Blazers is finalized.

The team will be coached by Jordan Brink, who has worked with the Pistons since 2016 and is the only holdover from the Stan Van Gundy era. Last year he was promoted to a player development coach.

The Pistons will play a guaranteed five games as part of NBA 2K23 Summer League from July 7-17. The top two teams after the first four games will compete in the championship game on July 17.

The schedule for the Detroit Pistons Summer League matchups are as follows:

Other players with Pistons connections on the squad include two-way players Braxton Key and Buddy Boeheim and former second-round draft pick Balsa Koprivica. Motor City Cruise players Anthony Tarke and Justin Turner will also join the Pistons in Las Vegas.

Rounding out the roster are undrafted rookies including Jules Bernard (UCLA), Buddy’s brother Jimmy Boeheim (Syracuse), Kyle Foster (Howard), Kameron McGusty (Miami), Charlie Moore (Miami), and Stanley Umude (Arkansas).

The Portland Trail Blazers begin summer league play at 9 p.m., Thursday against the Detroit Pistons at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The Blazers will play four games while hoping to qualify for the championship game on July 17. To do so, they would likely have to go 4-0. Possible? Maybe.

The Blazers will feature four players who saw extensive action late last season after the Blazers decided to trade in a possible playoff run for a high draft pick. Those four players are Brandon Williams, Keon Johnson, Greg Brown III and Trendon Watford.

The pick ended up being No. 7, earned with a 27-55 record. Guard Shaedon Sharpe is the prize and will be the focal point of the Blazers’ summer session.

Blazers assistant coach Steve Hetzel was mum on who would start the opener but logic would dictate that Williams will start at point guard, Johnson and Sharpe at the wings, Brown at power forward and Watford at center.

Also on display for the first time will be rookie forward Jabari Walker, selected out of Colorado in the second round of last month’s draft.

The Pistons will roll out some familiar names as well. Cade Cunningham, last year’s No. 1-overall pick, will participate in summer league after averaging 17.4 points, 5.5 rebounds and 4.6 assists during his rookie season.

He will be joined by Killian Hayes and Saddiq Bey. Hayes averaged 6.9 points per game in 66 appearances with 40 starts while Bey put up 16.1 points and 5.4 rebounds in 82 starts.

Certain to draw a lot of attention will be Pistons rookie guard Jaden Ivy, chosen fifth overall out of Purdue.

That foursome should give the Blazers all they can handle in the opening game for both teams.

Syracuse, N.Y. ― The brothers Boeheim will make their NBA summer league debuts for the Detroit Pistons on the first day of action in Las Vegas tonight.

Buddy Boeheim, who signed a two-way deal with the Pistons following the NBA draft, and Jimmy Boeheim, who agreed to a summer deal with the club, are on Detroit’s roster entering the team’s game against the Portland Trail Blazers tonight at midnight Eastern time. The game will be televised on ESPN.

The Boeheim brothers played together at Syracuse last year for their Hall of Fame father, Jim. Buddy led the ACC in scoring at 19.2 points per game, while Jimmy, who played three years at Cornell before transferring to Syracuse, averaged 13.7 points and 6.2 rebounds per game.

Buddy Boeheim’s two-way deal means he will split the 2022-23 season between Detroit and the Pistons’ G-League affiliate, the Motor City Cruise.

Thursday’s late game against Portland is the first of four games the Pistons will play in Las Vegas before moving into the summer league’s playoff rounds.

Detroit will play the Washington Wizards on Saturday at 6 p.m. That game will be on ESPN2.

Then on Tuesday, the Pistons will play the Indiana Pacers on NBA TV at 9 p.m. Finally, the Pistons and the Cleveland Cavaliers will play on Thursday, July 14 at 5:30 p.m. That game will also be on TSN.

The summer league playoffs begin on Saturday, July 16.

Former Syracuse forward Cole Swider will also be in Las Vegas. Swider signed a two-way deal with the Los Angeles Lakers.

The Lakers have already played three games in the California Summer League in San Francisco. Swider has averaged 11.3 points and made nine of his 15 3-point attempts. The Lakers’ first game in Vegas will be against the Phoenix Suns on Friday at 10 p.m. on ESPN2.
