What is the highest selling cookbook?

Although it may once have been perfectly reasonable to assume that the Internet would ultimately do away with the concept of cookbooks altogether, they have continued to stand the test of time and adorn the shelves of many a home cook around the world. Here are just a few of the very best.

How To Eat by Nigella Lawson

It wouldn’t be any sort of cookbook list without mentioning a title by the queen of cooking herself, Nigella Lawson. How To Eat is nothing short of a joy to read and features Lawson’s evocative meditations on everything food. Her publisher even released a paperback version to mark the title’s 20th anniversary because they understand just how readable it is. So, this might be one of the few cookbooks that fans have two copies of; one in their kitchen and another on their bedside table.

Joy of Cooking by Irma Rombauer

After her husband sadly passed away, Irma Rombauer self-published some of her recipes to support herself and her family. She only had enough money to print 3,000 copies but it wasn’t long before a publisher got in touch and asked her to revise her cookbook. The expanded version was published in 1936 and was an instant hit. In addition to creating delicious dishes, Rombauer was also extremely funny. One of her first instructions for cooks hoping to create a culinary sensation in the kitchen was to ‘stand facing the stove.’ Joy of Cooking has gone on to sell more than 18 million copies.

Salt, Fat, Acid, Heat by Samin Nosrat

Samin Nosrat introduces readers to the core culinary elements that all good food depends on. She presents the knowledge she gained whilst working at the iconic Chez Panisse in a warm and engaging way that is certain to transform the way you approach your cooking forever. Her buttermilk roast chicken is a delight that you aren’t going to want to miss out on. Oh, and the accompanying Netflix series is also an excellent watch!

Betty Crocker’s Cookbook

When the fictional Betty Crocker released a cookbook in 1950, it quickly sold in numbers to rival the Bible! Since then, 11 editions have been released and sales have topped more than two million. Its success can be put down to its selection of simple and inexpensive recipes, presented with enticing imagery and tempting titles. We defy you not to want to cook a dish that is simply called ‘Emergency Steak’!

Mastering the Art of French Cooking by Julia, Child, Louisette Bertholle, and Simone Beck

Before the TV appearance that secured Julia Child her own cooking show, her publisher refused to invest much cash into the promotion of Mastering the Art of French Cooking simply because he didn’t think it would sell. Soon, though, several thousand copies were flying off the shelves every month. And some 50 years later, this title is still popular despite containing more than 10 pages dedicated to how to make an omelette.

Plenty by Yotam Ottolenghi

Yotam Ottolenghi knows how to add a flash of excitement to vegetables and Plenty is overflowing with delicious, highly innovative recipes that are certain to satisfy the palates of every omnivore and vegetarian alike.

The Kitchen Diaries by Nigel Slater

In The Kitchen Diaries, Nigel Slater intersperses flavourful recipes with his personal meditations on how food is best enjoyed. From crab sandwiches at the seaside in early summer to roasted pumpkin on frosty November nights, this is a cookbook that celebrates the heart of individual ingredients and their relationship to how we live our lives.

Modern Comfort Food by Ina Garten

In this glorious cookbook, Ina Garten shares more than 80 recipes that are ideal for sharing with those you love most in the world. From simple weeknight dinners to special weekend brunches, each recipe is presented in Ina’s authentic style which means it’ll almost feel like she’s stood right beside you in the kitchen cheering you on.

Veg by Jamie Oliver

Shifting well over a million copies, Veg includes recipes for spiced parsnip soup, allotment cottage pie, and crispy Moroccan carrots. Chapters include salads, traybakes, soups & sarnies, brunch, and much more, and readers will find each one packed with recipes that are certain to leave them feeling satisfied and full.

The River Cottage Cookbook by Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall

In a poetic, almost-love letter to homestead life, Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall urges readers to step away from industrial food systems towards the path of growing your own and understanding the environment around you.

Sharing a collection of my favorites from the current best selling cookbooks! From keto-friendly, gluten-free, and just down-home good cooking for easy dinner recipes, this collection of cookbooks has it all.

With many of us home more than usual these days, I bet you are like me and cooking meals for your family much more often than ever. I have found myself looking for more meal options for diversity because let’s be honest, it gets boring making and eating the same thing every single day and night. I have been keeping a basic supply of ingredients in the house so I am not going to the store as often and looking for some alternate recipes to use them in.

Which led to me looking for new cookbooks and of course some online shopping. As you can see I keep many of my current favorite cookbooks on my counter so they are easy to get too. I also like to flag the pages of my favorite recipes or ones I plan on trying soon so I can find them quickly.

I have also been looking for healthy options for dinner and snacks since those seem to be where I struggle with cooking. We are 100% gluten and dairy free but for the most part try to eliminate those two things. Of course this makes even shopping for ingredients hard especially at this time but with guided recipes from cookbooks, I can use many of the same ingredients over and over. So when I grocery shop I’ve been buying them in bulk.

Some of the books listed below are for people that are eating gluten-free and even keto-friendly. These are becoming such big trends and I have a few that I love making recipes from that I thought I would share.

What is the best cookbook for beginners?

If you are a beginner in the kitchen then the best cookbook to start with is How to Cook Everything The Basics: All You Need to Make Great Food. In this book you will get step-by-step instructions on how to rinse vegetables, hold a knife, basic cooking vocabulary and what it means, and so much more with recipes included. This would make such a great gift for someone in college, a birthday gift, or house warming gift.
