you're absolutely certain that's it's a 1907 model 14 little scout?

It depends whether it's the Model 14 or 14-1/2. The Model 14 (one-piece wood stock) is much scarcer than the 14-1/2 (separate stock and forearm).

there are no 14's that have sold recently on Gunbroker. 14 1/2's are going for $150 to $300

I was checking on the value of a 1907 Savage Stevens 22 that I have and due to your answer, find that I have a Model 14, single piece stock. I grew up learning to shoot using this little rifle. Over the years the spring weakened and the block would kick open, allowing the shell to be ejected out the back. First with the 22 Long Rifle, then the 22 longs and finally with 22 shorts. Maybe you could estimate the value of this little rifle and let me know if anything could be done to put it back into firing condition without destroying the collector value? I will attach a photo by the end of the week.

So my 14 1/2 little scout has "second" stamped on the left side receiver next to the barrel. Also a "j" is circled to the left. Tried history for Stevens. No reference to this. Any input

Mustanger,
There is "admin" and "Vale" who can answer site specific questions. The people that answer gun questions here do not work for the site, we do this from home for fun in our spare time.

Mustanger: Post your questions about the site in the Site Feedback Category. There is an Admin Category, however, it is only accessible by Administrators and Moderators.

The J. Stevens Arms and Tool Company No. 14 1/2 Little Scout was made in the period 1911-1933. There are no records to give a more exact date, however, it will be marked J. Stevens Arms Company if made after July 1, 1916.

The encircled "J" is an inspectors mark with no meaning outside of the factory.

See this blog for detailed information: http://www.gunvaluesboard.com/little-scouts-and-junior-1857.html

I have never seen or heard of Stevens products that were sold as seconds, however, I have seen several more modern firearms from other manufacturers that were blemished, yet safe to use, that were marked as seconds and sold, usually, to major distributors of that manufacturers products.

Iloveguns: The date, July 2, 07 stamped on No. 14 1/2 Little Scout rifles is the patent issue date for a patent of some feature of the rifle which advertises to competitors that the feature is patented.

little scout: The Stevens No. 14 "Little Scout" has a one piece stock, but has no patent date stamped on the barrel.

The Stevens No. 14 1/2 "Little Scout" has a two piece stock and fore-end and has the patent issue date of July, 2, 1907 stamped on the barrel.

Which "Little Scout" do you have?

Please post detailed pictures of both sides of the complete receiver area, both sides of the gun and READABLE, close-ups of ALL markings, including patent dates for identification and evaluation.
