Two adjacent angles of a parallelogram are in the ratio 4 is to 5

Two adjacent angles of a parallelogram are in the ratio 4:5. Find the measure of measure of each of its angles. What does ratio 4:5 mean? How do we set up the problem to solve for the angles?

A ratio of 4:5 signifies 4 + 5, or 9 parts Adjacent angles of a parallelogram are congruent

Method 1:

Therefore, smaller angle is: , and larger angle is: , or
OR
Method 2: Equation: 4x + 5x = 180 Solve for x, the multiplicative factor Multiply value of x by 4 to get smaller angle Multiply value of x by 5, or subtract smaller angle from 180 to get larger angle

Both methods should provide same results.

Ex 3.3, 5 The measures of two adjacent angles of a parallelogram are in the ratio 3 : 2. Find the measure of each of the angles of the parallelogram.Let the parallelogram be ABCD Given, adjacent angles are in the ratio 3 : 2 Let these two angles be ∠A and ∠B (∠ 𝐴)/(∠ 𝐵) = 3/2 Let ∠A = 3x and ∠B = 2x We know that Adjacent angles of a Parallelogram are Supplementary. ∠A + ∠B = 180° 3x + 2x = 180° 5x = 180° x = (180°)/5 x = 36° Therefore, ∠A = 3x = 3 × 36° = 108° ∠B = 2x = 2 × 36° = 72° Now, Opposite angles of a Parallelogram are equal . ∠C = ∠ A = 108° ∠ B = ∠ D = 72° ∴ Therefore, ∠ A = 108° , ∠B = 72°, ∠C = 108° and ∠D = 72°

Ex 3.4, 1 State whether True or False. (a) All rectangles are squares A rectangle is a parallelogram where one angle is 90° A square is a parallelogram where all angles are 90° and all sides are equal Since, rectangle has only Opposite sides equal whereas a square has all the sides equal. ∴ All rectangles are not squares. ⇒ Statement is False

Two adjacent angles of a parallelogram are in the ratio 4 : 5. Find the measure of each of its angles.

Solution

The ratio between two adjacent angles of a || gm ABCD are in the ratio 4 : 5

Two adjacent angles of a parallelogram are in the ratio 4 is to 5

Let A=4x and B=5x

But A+B=180

4x+5x=180

9x=180

x=1809=20

A=4x=4×20=80

B=5x=5×20=100
