How to fix broken speaker on android

When your cell phone’s speaker stops working properly, it can negatively impact almost everything your phone does. Music stops playing, you can’t make calls using speakerphone, and you don’t hear notifications. Your phone uses its speaker constantly and that means there is a high likelihood that it will eventually become damaged or simply wear out.

The speaker on your cell phone is constantly exposed to the environment and all the debris it contains. While your phone itself is built to withstand a lot of these environmental factors, its speaker doesn’t always protect itself well against small particles that can damage or muffle it.

Before you worry that you have a broken phone speaker, try:

  • Rebooting your phone
  • Checking for software updates
  • Making sure your volume levels are turned up. If you have an iPhone, make sure it isn’t set on “do not disturb” or vibrate.
  • Ensuring your speaker isn’t set on “mute” in any app
  • Taking your phone of “Headphone Mode”
  • Being sure your phone isn’t set to play sound through a bluetooth speaker, TV, or other device

Our certified repair technicians can take a look at your iPhone, Samsung, or Google Pixel and diagnose the problem with your speaker. Whether you need your speaker repaired or completely replaced, The Lab can handle it for you.

Dirt & Debris In The Speaker

Your cell phone’s speaker vents collect all kinds of debris over time (makeup, dead skin cells, pocket lint, etc.) and that can cause the sound to become muffled.

This isn’t a repair you want to try to do yourself. Using compressed air, chemicals or water to try to clean your speaker at home can damage not only the speaker but your entire phone!

Liquid Damage

Damage from liquid is a common cause of speaker problems. If you’ve spilled water on your phone or dropped it in a puddle, even if your phone starts working again, your speaker still might need to be repaired or replaced.

If you’ve spilled something like soda, juice, coffee, or tea on your phone, that can leave a sticky residue on the mesh that covers your speaker. Until that film is cleaned, the sound on your phone will continue to be muffled and distorted.

Improper Phone Storage

If you aren’t storing your phone in a clean, dry place, it can easily be damaged. Because your phone’s speaker is one of the most delicate parts of your phone, it is very susceptible to damage.

Make sure to keep your phone in a protective case whenever possible. If you’ve dropped your phone recently without its protective case, that could be the cause of your speaker damage.

Software Issues

If your phone’s software isn’t working or is outdated, your phone might not be sending the right signals to its speaker. The good news is that most software problems are an easy problem to fix that can be remedied with a simple software update or reinstall.

How to fix broken speaker on android

1] Restart your phone: There may be some minor fault (equivalent to the phone getting hung) and one simple way to fix the problem will be to restart your phone. Rebooting the device and there is a very strong likelihood that the speaker will be back to sounding normal again.

2) Check For Headphone Output: Sometimes, even after unplugging the headphone from the audio jack, your phone is still in headphone mode. This is because the Android fails to process that event, and in spite of taking the headphone out, your speaker remains disabled.

More often than not, the issue is resolved just by a simple reboot. But if it doesn’t work, there are some apps such as Disable Headphone, to help you fix iPhone or android phone speaker not working

3] Checking the sound: At times, there is no problem but people think there is a problem. Quite a few times, the speaker is not working as the speaker’s volume is on zero. That is to say, the speaker is working alright but the sound is too low to be heard. Just turn up the volume and things should straighten out by itself.

4] Speaker Settings: Go to your phone’s settings and check if someone has tampered with the settings of the speaker (voice settings). By mistake, the voice settings of the phone may have made the default volume very low. In such a situation, turn the volume on and then give it a try.

5] Water Insertion? Let It Dry

Did you accidently spill water/coffee on your phone? Chances are, the liquid insertion is the cause of phone speaker not working. In such as case, dry your phone properly.

After cleaning it with cotton or soft cloth, place it in a bowl of rice, or blow hot air into it.  But be sure, the first thing you do immediately after the accident is, switching off your phone.

6] Turning the device off and on: Sometimes, you need to jiggle the entire system software. In other words, you just need to shake things up. That can be done by simply turning the device off, waiting for a few seconds (say, ten seconds) and then restarting the phone. It solves the problem for many people. Unless your speaker has developed some major snag, this trick should fix the problem.

7] Tidying up the speaker: If an external dust or dirt particle has entered the speaker and is blocking it, you will need to clean it up. It is not, however, advisable to try cleaning the speaker on your own without any prior knowledge. Inserting a wet cloth, for instance, may be a dangerous idea. It would be best to get it cleaned by a professional.

8) Check for Any Application Glitch: Several times, this issue comes in after downloading an unsuitable app. If you notice the same too, delete the newly installed applications one by one, and check if it works.

Another way to find if the issue is app or software related, is running your phone in a Safe Mode. If speaker works fine in Safe Mode, then chances are, an app or software is the culprit. You can get rid of them by deleting them manually, Or doing a complete Factory Reset. In the latter case, don’t forget to take back up of your important files.

9] Do Not Disturb Setting: Sometimes, people forget that they have enabled the “Do Not Disturb Mode” to avoid unwanted calls. That disables the speaker, and you will not be able to talk over it.

So, make a quick check if the “Do Not Disturb” mode is on or Off. Navigate to Settings, and click on Do Not Disturb. Disable the setting, and then check is the problem is sorted

10] Go to Service Centre:If all the above tricks fail and the speaker still shows no sign of relenting, there may be some technical snag or fault which will need repair. For that, you will need to visit the service centre where you will get genuine professional advice.
