Why does it say join on facetime in messages when there are none

Anyone know why the FaceTime buttons in iMessages is green and says JOIN for some contacts? I checked and for others (also iPhone users) it isn’t green and is just the FaceTime camera logo. Is there a hidden reason for this?

Update: I found out it’s just a glitch. Didn’t wanna panic anyone lol but fr Apple needs to do somethingggg

With the inclusion of FaceTime, Apple has taken a step further in the area of video calling. iPhone users above iOS 12 can enjoy group video calls on FaceTime through the Message application for up to 32 users. But, many users in the community feed are inquiring about the ‘Join’ button on Messages.

It occurs when the other person is awaiting you or people on group chat are already on FaceTime. But, it can also emerge due to the software glitch on your iPhone.

In this article, we will first walk you through the list of the causes. Then, round up the article with the fixes to get over this issue.

Why Does It Say Join on FaceTime in Messages?

The Join on FaceTime indication in Messages is Apple’s way of altering the users about the ongoing FaceTime call. Having said that, there are several reasons why you see it in the first place. It can be because of any of the reasons below.

The Other Person is Awaiting You

When the person on the other end is already in the FaceTime call and waiting for you to arrive, you will see the ‘Join’ button on Messages.

Contrastly, it can occur when the contact you are trying to reach is engaged on another FaceTime call.

People on the Group Chat are on a FaceTime Call

When you see the Join on FaceTime notification in Messages in a group chat, it means other people in the group are engaged in a FaceTime call. The Join on FaceTime indicator allows you to join the ongoing call.

Glitch

The last reason for the occurrence of the Join on FaceTime in Messages is a glitch. What we mean by glitch is that neither there is an ongoing call in the group chat nor anyone is waiting for you to join in the individual messages.

You may try joining in but are left alone on FaceTime calls. In such a scenario, the Join in FaceTime is a part of a software glitch.

How to Fix Join on FaceTime in Messages Glitch?

As mentioned in the above section, the Join on FaceTime in Messages section can emerge because of the software glitch. So, you can try out the steps below to remove it.

Re-run the FaceTime and Messages Apps

You can first close the FaceTime and Messages applications. Doing so can refresh the applications and clear some minor technical malfunctions related to apps. After a while, you can try opening the applications and check whether the issue resolves or not.

Turn Off Wi-Fi/ Cellular Data

When you face the issue, try turning off the Wi-Fi/ Cellular Data, whichever you use. It will break the connection of FaceTime and Messages applications with their servers. With the break in the connection, they can’t send you an invitation to join FaceTime in Messages.

So, you can turn off the Wi-Fi/ Cellular Data using the steps below.

  1. Swipe down from the top or swipe up from the bottom of the screen to open the Control Center panel.
  2. Tap the Wi-Fi/Cellular Data button to turn it off.

After that, you can wait for a couple of minutes and turn the Wi-Fi/Cellular Data on. Check if the problem resolves.

Switch Off the Phone and Power It on Again

Another likely solution to the problem is restarting your iPhone. Restarting your phone will clear the RAM storage, clears the temporarily stored files, and resolve minor glitches. Depending on the iPhone’s model, the process of restarting the phone varies.

Turn Off FaceTime and Turn it On Again

You can also try turning off FaceTime from the Settings menu and turn it back on. This method has helped many users resolve their problems. To do so,

  1. Open the phone’s Settings.
  2. Scroll down and select FaceTime.
  3. Now, toggle off the button next to FaceTime.
  4. Restart your iPhone and toggle the FaceTime button from the Settings menu.

Download the Pending iOS Update

The glitch we are talking about also occurs when there is some pending software update on your iPhone. When iPhones roll out new software updates, it helps the system clear the bugs, fix minor glitches, and help your phone install new features. So, you can check the step below to download the pending iOS update on your iPhone.

  1. Head to the Settings menu and tap General.
  2. Then, press Software Update and choose Download and Install.
  3. When asked, type your PIN or Passcode.
  4. After that, hit the Install Now option.

Reach Out to the Apple Support

When nothing works in your favor, it’s time to reach out to Apple Support. You can generate a support ticket and let people in Apple investigate your problem. Or, you can take your phone to a nearby Apple Store and let the professionals deal with the issue.

You may have noticed that, after you’ve finished a facetime call with someone, you’ll go to the chat and find that, instead of the facetime button, it says ‘join.’ It will make the sound as if the facetime call has been answered, but no one will be present.

The join button remains active no matter how many times you’ve closed Facetime and the bug continues to exist. What exactly is going on here? It’s inconvenient because you can’t Facetime the person until the Join button goes away.

Open an iMessage conversation with someone and glance to your right; you should ordinarily see a video-camera icon appear in the upper right corner of the screen. And if you tap on it, you’ll be shown two options: you may either initiate an audio Facetime call with the contact or start a video call with the contact.

However, occasionally, instead of the standard video-camera icon, you’ll get a camera icon that is green-colored or a ‘Join’ button in a different green color.

What Does the Green Join Button Mean on iMessage with One Person

The join button, added to iMessage and Facetime in iOS 15, is another feature Apple added to ensure people can Join Facetime call easily. With the join button, iPhone users can join FaceTime call easily when they’ve been disconnected from the call with one person or when the group chat is having a FaceTime call and you’re not on it already.

Some of the more common issues have already been patched out, but that does not mean that you will not encounter some type of problem with the join button. In case you do find yourself needing to troubleshoot, this detailed guide can help you find a solution to you issue.

Why Does the Facetime Button Say Join in Messages With One Person?

There are a couple of reasons that you might see the join button appear in your iMessage. It is usually not a glitch and is appearing as intended. The main purpose of the join button are as follows.

1. There’s a Glitch

A bug on your iPhone can the green join button even after you have disconnected the FaceTime call. The green camera button that says Join would stay on the screen even after the call has ended.

Most of the time, the facetime join button glitch occurs when the call has been dropped unexpectedly. Perhaps their phone battery died or something along those lines.

If you tap the green camera icon on your device’s screen, two things will happen. Either you’ll wind up phoning the other person back, or you’ll be the only one on the FaceTime call due to this.

The Join button appears in the group chat when a group call is currently. No matter how many group members are participating in a call simultaneously, the ‘Join’ option will only appear if the call is initiated from the group.

On the other hand, the green camera icon should only appear when you’re on a phone call with the other person. It doesn’t matter if they’re on a Facetime call with someone else; the Facetime icon shouldn’t be replaced with the Join button.

If you encounter this problem, make sure you’re running the most recent software release. If you are using the most recent software and are still experiencing problems, there is nothing you can do but wait until Apple addresses the issue.

2. Their Phone Died

When trying to Facetime whose phone died, it might trigger the Join button.. Before you can get in touch with them, they will need to charge their phone and turn it back on again. Once the phone is on, you can connect with them on Facetime.

3. Apple Is Notifying You of An Ongoing FaceTime Call with Your Group

The green join button is Apple’s way of notifying you of an ongoing Facetime call involving members of a group chat that you are in. The join button appears as a shortcut to get you into the conversation faster. This is a neat feature that helps streamline the user experience when using Facetime to communicate.

The general idea behind the implementation of the green join button is to help keep group members informed of any active conversations. The button will appear in the upper right-hand corner of your screen when viewing an iMessage from someone in a group chat that you can join.

4. You Have a Contact in A Facetime Call with Someone Else

The green join button has also been reported to appear when opening an iMessage from someone actively participating in a Facetime call that is joinable.

Should you choose to join, you will be placed into the call, regardless of group affiliation. This is good feature for when you need to hop into a call unexpectedly or want to start a quick group chat outside of your usual members.

These are the basic functions of the new join button. They are a nice addition to the already robust iMessage and Facetime app. Utilizing the join button can make hopping in and out of Facetime calls easier than ever.

How to Fix Facetime Saying Join in Facetime on iMessage

If you find that the join button is not functioning as intended, or missing completely, there are a few methods to resolve these issues. The join button is still a relatively new feature, so some bugs are to be expected. Follow the guidelines below to troubleshoot any issues that you might encounter when trying to use the new Facetime join button.

1. Close Facetime App

Allowing your phone to connect to cellular or WiFi networks is impossible while airplane mode gets enabled on your device. To activate airplane mode on an iPhone or iPad, slide up from the bottom of the screen, as seen below.

If you look in the menu that appears, you’ll see a small airplane icon that you may click, and it will turn orange. It indicates that airplane mode has been activated.

After a few minutes, you can switch off airplane mode and see if the join issue has been rectified. Turning on airplane mode is like performing a soft reset on your device.

3. Hang Up and Call Back

If the join button appears but fails to put you into the call, you should try repeatedly hanging up and calling till it finally connects. Failure to place you into the call is most likely a temporary glitch that will resolve itself over time.

There could be a problem with your phone service or internet connection if the problem persists. Check your connections and keep trying and eventually you will be placed into the call.

4. Join The FaceTime Group Chat

If your chief concern is getting rid of the join button from the top right corner of your iMessage screen, then simply joining the Facetime call will get rid of the icon temporarily. It will reappear if the Facetime Group Chat is still ongoing after you leave.

5. Turn Off Your Internet Connection

If you have problems with the join button being visible when there is no group chat, or you wish to stop receiving join button notifications altogether, turning off your internet connection can help solve these problems.

Without an internet connection Facetime and iMessage will be unable to gather the necessary data to alert of any potential group chats.

6. Restart Your iPhone

Most of the bugs you will encounter involving the new join button can be solved by simply restarting your iPhone. This will give your phone a chance to rectify and errors and start with a clean slate. After restarting try joining a Facetime call using the join button to see if your problem has been resolved.

7. Facetime Them Normally

You will need to close iMessage and go to your phone app to find the contact you are trying to get ahold of. Click on the Facetime button, and you should be able to establish a connection from there.

8. Wait It Out

Another straightforward way that you can approach problems with the join button is to simply wait it out and let the problem resolve itself. Apple has already addressed several known issues with the join but and released patches to fix those issues, so any problem you encounter with the join button is likely a temporary error.

9. Update Your iPhone

If you are having trouble getting the join button to appear, you should first try updating your iPhone to the most recent version. The join button only appears for users with iOS 15 or higher, so ensuring that you have a compatible version is a good first step to resolving your issues with the join button.

A recent update could also patch out any known problems that you might be encountering. It is important that you always keep your iPhone up to date for an optimal user experience.

10. Contact Apple Support

If you find that you are having a serious recurring issue with the join button, you can contact Apple Support and have them investigate.

Opening a support ticket is simple and can often times be the best course of action when encountering a problem that does not have an easy fix. If you have tried all of the methods for resolving your problem listed here, then this is an excellent choice for you.

Conclusion

When you open an iMessage group conversation on your phone, the “join” button may appear. It means that other group chat members are already engaged in a group FaceTime call, and the “join” button is disabled. The switch in the upper right corner allows you to join the conversation.

You can join the call by tapping the button while viewing who is actively participating in the group chat.
