Kevin Stadler had a brutal opening round at the 2022 RBC Canadian Open that ended with a Disqualification.

Kevin Stadler doesn’t play often these days but when he does tee it up things tend to end in disaster for the PGA Tour veteran. That was again the case on Thursday at the 2022 RBC Canadian Open for Stadler after he slumped to an opening-round 79 and was Disqualified from the event soon after.

No reason was given as to why the Disqualification was issued, only that it happened soon after Kevin had signed his scorecard.

Stadler had a similar experience at the RSM Classic back in 2020 after he received a DQ for signing an incorrect scorecard following the completion of his second round. That came after another rough round for Kevin Stadler when he had shot an 83 for an 11-over par round.

Kevin Stadler got into this week’s event in Toronto, Canada, as an alternate after Kevin Chappell pulled out of the field.

The 42-year-old Stadler, who first joined the PGA Tour back in 2005, is playing this season on a past champion exemption.

The season has not been kind to Stadler so far as he has played in eight events now and missed the cut in seven of them, his lone made cut came back at the Corales Puntacana Championship in March in his last start on Tour.

The 2014 Waste Management Phoenix Open winner had odds to win this week around +100000, and for good reason, Stadler has made just three cuts since the 2020 Workday Charity Open at Muirfield Village and has finished no better than T53 in any start since then.

Thursday’s round was a struggle right from the get-go for Kevin as he began his day with a triple-bogey on the opening par 4, 1st. He would drop an additional two shots on his outward nine before picking up a lone birdie on the par 5, 9th hole to make the turn with a 38.

Things didn’t get any better on the inward half as Stadler would go on to drop another five shots on route to a 41. Stadler signed off with a 79, good for a 9 over par day.
