The sequel to the original Call Of Duty, Call Of Duty 2, brought gamers into the depths and perspectives of 4 soldiers: 1 in the Red Army, 1 in the United States, and 2 in the British Army.

The game was split into what we commonly see in present-day Call Of Duty games, with multiple campaigns, split stories, and different missions for each character. Notable features added to this COD, which we still see in present games, are health regeneration, a warning icon, a grenade nearby, and its real-life sound system.

In the first week, this COD sold over 250,000 copies!

Call Of Duty 3

COD 3 storyline is set during the Normandy Breakout, where American, British, Canadian, French, and Polish forces pushed into France.

Players can now jump into a lobby and play ranked or unranked matches. Players can also invite other players to games, a significant feature that allows friends to play for hours.

The multiplayer system is where we start to see drastic improvements that are still widely noticed today – such as leveling up reward systems, weapon and camouflage attachments, and different game modes!

Call Of Duty: World at War

The fifth series in the Call Of Duty franchise, COD WAW, returned to World War II roots. The point of view is told from Marine Raider Private C. Miller, US Navy Petty Officer Locke, and Red Army soldier Private Dimitri Petrenko.

The setting is on the Eastern and Pacific fronts during World War II. What’s remarkable about this game is that most of the players’ situations are based on actual events. More multiplayer additions in WAW can ride in tanks and a new co-op system where players can support two players locally and the four players online.

We also see the first installment of the “Zombies” game mode, which became a smash hit.

Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2

Call Of Duty MW2 is arguably one of the best Call of Duty games made. The smooth gameplay, exciting storyline, and highly addicting multiplayer made this a game to play for hours.

Following Task Force 141, a special forces unit is led by Captain Soap MacTavish as they hunt Vladimir Makarov, leader of the Russian Ultranationalist party. One controversy that arose from the game is the airport scene. You play as a Russian Ultranationalist and gun down an entire wave of people waiting at the airport.

Along with an outstanding campaign, MW2 also featured a fantastic multiplayer. Players could now get 25 killstreaks and call in a “tactical nuke,” which would end the game and give your team the win.

It gave elite players a way to flex their muscles if they could achieve it. Within 24 hours of the game’s release, it sold OVER 4.7 million copies! COD MW2 won several awards, including Game Of The Year, Best Overall Game 2009, & much, much more!

Call Of Duty: Black Ops

Also known as “BOPS,” Black Ops takes place in the Cold War, roughly 20 years after Call of Duty World At War. The characters controlled are various special agents for the CIA who rotate throughout the game.

BOPS also included a much-improved zombie game that told a storyline. Players must complete levels and continually find new items to unlock doors and pieces to the story.

Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 3

MW3 features the return of “Soap” MacTavish, where the Delta Force and Special Air Service try to hunt the enemy in MW2, Vladimir Makarov. During the game’s development, the two founders of Infinity Ward (Jason West and Vince Zampella) left the company to start a new venture. Other members had been fired or let go, so Infinity Ward brought Sledgehammer games to help with the development.

In the multiplayer version of MW3, instead of players earning kill streak rewards for kills, they made it for actions such as capturing a flag, planting a bomb, etc.

This encouraged players to not just camp but also to contribute to the tactical part of the game. Within 24 hours of sale, the game sold 6.5 million copies!

Call Of Duty: Black Ops II

BOPS II has two different settings, one in the ’80s with Alex Mason & Frank Woods and then again in the future in 2025 with Alex’s son David.

David is after Nicaraguan cartel leader Raul Menendez who captures Frank Woods in the ’80s. The campaign is unique because it has built-in multiple endings based on the player’s decisions throughout the game.

This is the first time we have seen this action-response gameplay in the Call Of Duty franchise. Multiplayer now features a “pick 10” slot, which players can fill with whatever they’d like.

This allows players to get creative with their load-outs and items available to them in-game. A “prestige” option is available in this game, where players can start back to 1, but in this game, they’re rewarded with it instead of just getting a small emblem.

Call Of Duty: Ghosts

The 10th installment of the COD franchise, Call Of Duty Ghosts, features leader Elias Walker, joined by his sons Logan & David, who take on a former member of the Ghosts who now acts as the antagonist.

Another option is to play as Riley (the dog), the first for the series.

The multiplayer series brought back the “nuke,” which allowed players to end the game (the KEM Strike). A new “squads” option was added to make a squad up with your friends and compete for the best squad in the world!

The first Call Of Duty is exclusively made by Sledgehammer games. They previously supported other projects, but this was its first major contribution. Major upgrades to this game can use an “Exo” skeleton to boost, dash, and sky jump.

The games Exo’s are a major part of the game, as it adds a maneuver element that previous games lacked. Multiplayer featured high flying, intense shootouts, as players can utilize all of the Exo’s.

Major changes were the randomized supply drops which can drop skins, weapons, and even XP!

Call Of Duty: Black Ops III

BOPS III is the 12th installment of the Call Of Duty Franchise. The campaign is extremely different from previous campaigns. This campaign uses a “realistic” style, which includes a “one-shot kill” system.

It is also a progression system in which players will be granted tokens to use on guns and other items needed. Zombies feature a new XP system, in which players earn XP for zombie kills and surviving deep into rounds.

The new multiplayer system allowed players to achieve “thruster packs,” used to run on walls and complete other maneuvers. In addition to the Pick 10 system, players also had special abilities unique to each character.

Infinite Warfare brings players into an epic fight for the solar system! Gamers are introduced to zero-gravity zones and outer space environments.

The campaign is based around Nick Reyes, a special operations pilot, and his fight to stop a hostile force trying to assume control of the solar system. Thrust Jumps and wall running still feature from previous CODs that made their way into this multiplayer.

Gun perks are introduced based on four levels: Common, Rare, Legendary, and Epic.

Back to World War II! Significant battles, including the Battle Of The Bulge and The Normandy Landing, are featured. Call of Duty was widely known for featuring health regeneration in its game.

This campaign mode took a different turn, introducing health packs and teammates to revive hurt players. Players’ squads can do tactical. Nazi Zombies are featured in this game and feature an exciting back story.

The multiplayer mode features “Divisions” instead of picking certain guns. Different divisions wield different weapons and strategies.

Call Of Duty: Black Ops IIII

Blackout was introduced to Call Of Duty due to the recent explosion and popularity of Fortnite. It features 100 players placed on an open-world map, and only there’s only one winner.

Players can play solos, duos, or squad matches with friends.
