There are four game difficulty options for Minecraft, them being:
Peaceful, No hostile mobs, no food degeneration.

Easy, Hostile mobs will spawn but won't give debuffs, food will degenerate.

Normal, Hostile mobs can give debuffs, hunger takes you down to half a heart.

Hard, Hostile mobs deal more damage and spawn more often, hunger can kill you.

How do I change my difficulty?

The easiest way to change difficulty, is by navigating to your console, and once the server is online, using the difficulty hard command ('hard' can be changed for any of the above options).

If this doesn't work, you can try following these steps:

Log into our server control panel.

Click 'Manage' to open your server.

Click Management, then click File Management.

Find and open the server.properties file.

Find difficulty and set it to the difficulty number from 0-3, as explained at the beginning of the guide.

Press the 'Save File' button.

Restart your server, see how to do that here, if you don't know how.

The Minecraft difficulty levels can be set using the /difficulty command. If you play online, you need to edit the settings for your server in server.properties so that your change remains after a restart. In addition to the four difficulty levels: peaceful, easy, normal, and hard. There are numerous mods available to make your game experience even more challenging or relaxed.

While some players are looking for a challenge, others just want to relax and work on a construction project or explore the game world. For this reason, you’ll have four difficulty levels at your disposal: peaceful, easy, normal and hard. While the setting is quite simple in a solo game, there are various methods to adjust the difficulty level on Minecraft servers.

Changing the difficulty via chat command

The easiest way to adjust the difficulty is to use the chat command /diffculty:

  1. Open the chat via the “T” key.
  2. Enter the command “/difficulty <desired difficulty>”. For the hardest mode in Minecraft this would be “/difficulty hard”.
  3. Now you confirm the input by pressing Enter.

Note that you need operator rights on the server to be able to change the difficulty level. This method is the easiest, but it has the disadvantage of having to repeat it every time you restart the server if you want to play on a certain difficulty level permanently.

Changing the difficulty by server setting

A permanent change of the difficulty level needs to be done via the server settings. Proceed as follows:

  1. Open the server and search the file server.properties.
  2. now search the line “difficulty” and change the numerical value according to the desired difficulty. For peaceful you enter 0, for easy 1, for normal 2 and for hard 3.
  3. Save your changes, close the file and restart your Minecraft server.

Change the difficulty with mods

In addition to difficulty levels, many mods and modpacks also give you the ability to further customize the difficulty level. Modpacks like Roguelike Adventures and Dungeons or RLCraft can be significantly more challenging than vanilla Minecraft. If you want to change the Minecraft difficulty beyond the default settings while staying as close to the original game as possible, mods like the Noob mod or Progressive Difficulty are recommended to gradually make your Minecraft harder.

Conclusion Minecraft difficulty

Whether noob or pro, relaxed or highly concentrated: Now you should know everything necessary to adapt Minecraft to your needs. We wish you a lot of fun playing, winning and losing.

Minecraft Hosting Game Servers

You can set the server difficulty in a couple of ways.

The simplest way would be to log into your MultiCraft control panel, click on Console on the left hand side and run the command "difficulty [desired difficulty]" to change the difficulty immediately between Peaceful, Easy, Normal and Hard. Alternatively if you are opped on the server (or have permission for the command if you are using plugins) you can use the command ingame as well, with a / infront of it as normal.

You can also edit the server.properties itself for this on the Files > Config Files > Server Settings page of the control panel. Simply change the Difficulty setting to what you want, save changes at the bottom of the page and then restart your server.

**Please note that there is currently a visual bug on MultiCraft for Minecraft 1.14 and newer servers that shows the setting on the Server Settings page as Peaceful all the time, regardless of the real setting - this is being worked on but for now you can confirm the real setting in the console by just typing in "difficulty".

Is it possible to change the difficulty of a Minecraft server while it is running?

5

Changing your server's difficulty allows you to make your in-game experience easier or more difficult. Want to play without hostile mobs? Try peaceful mode! Need a more difficult experience? Try hard mode, which makes mobs deal more damage!

To change the difficulty for your server:

1. Login to your server's control panel.

2. On the left-hand side of your control panel, click File Access.

3. Locate the server.properties file. Click to edit this file.

4. Find the difficulty setting.

5. Change the difficulty from the current difficulty (normal by default) to either peaceful, easy, normal, or hard depending on which difficulty you want on your server.

Peaceful: Hostile mobs will not spawn or deal damage aside from the Enderdragon. Slowly replenish health over time. You will not lose hunger.

Easy: Hostile mobs deal less damage and cannot inflict status effects. Having full hunger will only drop your health down to 5 hearts.

Normal: The default/standard difficulty. Minecraft at its purest.

Hard: Hostile mobs deal more damage.

6. Click Save to save the changes you made to your server.properties file. Afterward, return to your main panel page by clicking Back to Control Center in your File Access.

7. Press the Start button to start your server back up.

Your Minecraft server will now start with the new difficulty that you selected!
